Exciting Updates for YouTube Shorts
Get ready, Shorts creators and fans! YouTube is rolling out some exciting updates that are sure to make creating and discovering Shorts even more fun. Whether you’re looking to try something new or want to elevate your content, these updates give you more tools to express yourself, get inspired, and stay on top of the latest trends.
Longer Shorts Coming Soon!
Starting October 15, you can upload Shorts up to 3 minutes long. This feature has been highly requested by creators, giving you more flexibility to tell your story. Whether your video is square or taller, this update applies, and it won’t affect anything you uploaded before October 15. YouTube will also be improving recommendations for longer Shorts over the coming months to make sure your content gets the spotlight it deserves.
Easier and More Fun to Create
See a Short that you love? YouTube’s new template feature lets you recreate the magic with just a few taps! Hop on the latest trends, match your clips to the hottest sounds, and add your own twist. Just tap “Remix” on the Short that inspires you, and select “Use this template” to make it your own.
In the coming months, you’ll be able to tap into YouTube’s vast content library directly from your Shorts camera, making it easier than ever to remix clips from your favourite videos, music videos, and more. You can even pull multiple clips from across YouTube!
And let’s not forget about the game-changer—YouTube Shorts will soon integrate Google DeepMind’s Veo, a powerful video-generating model. This means even more creative possibilities with dreamy video backgrounds and standalone clips to enhance your Shorts.

Discover what’s hot in your region with the new Shorts trends page on mobile. It’s the easiest way to get inspired and jump into the latest trend!
Plus, getting a feel for the conversation just got easier. Soon, you’ll be able to preview comments right from the Shorts feed before diving into the comments section.
Customize Your Feed
YouTube wants to make sure your feed is tailored to your preferences. Soon, you’ll be able to opt to “Show fewer Shorts” by clicking the three-dot menu on any Shorts grid in your Home feed. YouTube will then show you fewer Shorts temporarily based on your choice.
