What keywords to use to optimise your profiles for social SEO? | Barrk Byte Ep 25

Transcript

Over 70% of internet users are using social media to search for information and product recommendations. Are your profiles optimised to help more people find you?

With the rise of social SEO, using traditional SEO tactics has become an essential part of social media marketing. Since more people are searching on social, using keywords to optimise your profiles can help the right people find you.

So, your social media profile needs keywords. But where do you put them? To optimise your profile, adding keywords to our username, display name, and bio are key. Remember to make it relevant, too. For example, instead of @CTCoffee, try @CapeTownCoffee.

Keywords used in your display name should also be specific. For example, instead of just using ‘Barrk Marketing’ try ‘Barrk Marketing | Digital Marketing Specialists’. This makes it easier for people to find your profile if they are looking for digital marketing services in their area. The same goes for your bio. Keep the keywords specific, but make sure they flow naturally.

For example, if you’re a photographer, be specific about what you specialise in! For example “Professional wedding and lifestyle photographer” or “Professional product photographer in Cape Town”. These keywords are great examples of natural language keywords, or keywords that mimic how we speak.

People tend to type how they talk, so optimising your profile in the same way will be most effective. Natural language keywords are also the best type to use in your content because they occur organically. This means you won’t have to struggle to add them to your content or change what you want to say too much.

So, adding keywords sounds great. But where do you find them? Easy. By doing a bit of online research.

  1. Use Instagram, LinkedIn, or TikTok for search suggestions.
  2. Check out competitor profiles.
  3. Use SEO tools like Ahrefs or Surfer SEO.

Now that you know how to use keywords to optimise your social media profile, you can drive organic traffic to your website and boost sales.
